Former light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO's) plans to fight his way to the end of 2014 before finally retiring. Miguel wants to return later on this year. Cotto mentioned a fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez as his main interest. It's doubtful that the fight would happen this year if Canelo were to beat Austin Trout on May 4th. Canelo lost interest in a Cotto showdown after he was upset by Trout in December of last year. Canelo has his sights set on Mayweather, who he is likely to face on September 14th if they both win tier respected bouts on May 4th.
Should Canelo lose, then a possible showdown with Cotto is more likely. However a Canelo win would likely put Cotto into a immediate rematch with Austin Trout. Cotto is going to draw a following no matter who is opponent is this fall, but a Trout rematch would likely be his best option. As far as 2014 goes, there's alot of scenarios that have to play out before deciding his final two opponents, but Canelo could be an option then.
