3 Boxing Matches to Look Out for in 2024

The world of boxing is certainly an exciting one. The sport has been around for as long as people have existed, and it has inspired both athletes and creatives. We all know about the big-time boxers of the 20th century, from Rocky Marciano, to Jake LaMotta, and of course “The Greatest” himself, Muhammad Ali.

All of these boxers have entrenched themselves in society, to the point that films have been made about their accomplishments. The most notable film is, of course, Rocky, which remains a cornerstone in cinema. The Rocky franchise has spawned sequels, spin-offs, video games, and more. There is even a fantastic slot based on the film, which hundreds play even today.

All of this to say, boxing is one of the cornerstones of human athleticism. Even now, close to 6000 years after its creation, the sport remains relevant in modern discourse. People look forward to the big-time matches and are curious about the champions. That is why, in this article, we are looking at the most exciting boxing events of 2024.

Jake Paul vs. Ryan Bourland

Whether you love him or hate him, there is no denying that Jake Paul is one of the most exciting things to happen to boxing. Though he attained his fame as a YouTuber and influencer, the younger Paul brother has done a lot of work to prove himself as a notable boxer. He has built up a pretty stellar record, and has brought back excitement for boxing among a younger crowd.

That is why it has a lot of folks excited that Ryan Bourland is coming out of retirement to face off against the YouTuber-turned-boxer on March 2. Bourland is a former Golden Gloves champion, a two-time GBO Light Heavyweight champion, and an incredibly talented fighter in his own right. As things stand now, the fight will be an eight-round bout, taking place as the co-main event to the Amanda Serrano vs. Nina Meinke fight in San Juan, Puerto Rico. And speaking of which…

Amanda Serrano vs. Nina Meinke

Taking place on March 2 as the co-main event to the Jake Paul vs. Ryan Bourland fight, the Serrano vs. Meinke fight will be the ultimate finale. Recently, women’s professional martial art events have gotten a lot of attention, and have begun to be taken a lot more seriously, and fighters like Meinke and Serrano are among the reasons why.

Meinke is a German fighter, who competes in the featherweight class. She is the current European featherweight champion, a title which she has held on to since 2018. Throughout her career, Meinke has been in 13 fights, three of which she has won by K.O., and 7 by decision. She has only been knocked out once in her professional boxing career.

Serrano, on the other hand, is the definite favorite to win the match. Not only is she fighting on home turf, but she is also the unified IBF, WBO, and WBA featherweight title holder in the women’s department. On top of that, she has experience on her side, having competing in 49 fights, of which she has only lost two, and never by knockout. She has won a total of 46 fights, with 30 of them being by K.O.

Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk

The last fight we are looking at is, by far, the most exciting. Tyson “2 Fast” Fury has often been compared to the 20th century greats. Indeed, his father even named him after “Iron” Mike Tyson, who happened to be the Heavyweight champion at the time.

In the other corner, we have Oleksandr “the Cat” Usyk, the first boxer to ever hold all four world Heavyweight division titles. Regarded as, easily, the best Ukrainian boxer, and one of the best boxers of all time, Usyk is certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Their match was originally scheduled to take place in February. However, due to Fury’s facial injury, it has been postponed. Fans will have to wait until May to see these two titans of the ring go toe-to-toe. The bout will take place on 18 May, 2024. Excitement is high and tensions are building. While Tyson is the favorite to win the match, Usyk’s fans are standing strong behind him.
