Monday Night Fights starts August 19th

Golden Boy is excited to announce the first Monday Night Fights event that will be on Fox Sports 1 August 19th. Danny Jacobs, who recently overcame a huge scare after being diagnosed with cancer, will headline the show. The following are quotes from the fighters and Golden Boy partner Hopkins.

BERNARD HOPKINS, Golden Boy Promotions Partner & IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion

"This is history that I believe will help all young fighters to build their names, build their records and become household names in order to continue to come up in the rankings and be superstars in the future.

"Boxing on Monday nights is something fans will be watching. What a great way to start the week by watching Monday night boxing.

"This is the first of the 24 shows and there's going to constantly be more fights [on FOX Sports 1]. When I was coming up, we had Tuesday night fights. Now, we have [Monday night fights] FOX Sports 1.

"Barclays Center will host some of these shows, which is great because they've already been hosting great fights and doing a great job."

BILL WANGER, Executive Vice President of Programming & Research, FOX Sports

"On behalf of FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports, we're thrilled to create a destination for this franchise. On Monday nights, kicking off on August 19, we'll have two fights a month, every other week.

"We're thrilled to be in business with Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins and the entire Golden Boy Promotions staff. We're just excited to get started."

DANNY JACOBS, Top Middleweight Contender

"All this for me? This is amazing. I'm truly blessed. God has been with me since day one. I'm fortunate to be here and to have my own main event.

"Two years ago, I was battling a war. I was paralyzed in a hospital battling cancer, so for me to come back and have my own main event in Times Square, it doesn't get any better than that.

"I'm fortunate to be a part of this and to be able to say to my son that his daddy was a part of something special.

"Giovanni is a tremendous fighter, a very good fighter, and I know he's going to bring it come fight night. He's going to be a tough test.

"I know Giovanni says he has a sturdy chin and a good punch, but you can't hit what you can't see.

"I have very quick hand speed, very good punching power and my knockout ratio is up there.  Giovanni is going to be a real good test for me. Much respect to his camp, but Monday night it's going to be all Danny Jacobs.

"August 19 is going to be a great show, and tickets are only 35 dollars. You can't beat that. Come support us up and coming fighters."

GIOVANNI LORENZO, Former World Title Challenger

"I'm very happy I'm fighting in Manhattan after so many years.

"It's been a while since I've fought amongst my people.

"I look forward to facing Danny Jacobs, who is a very good fighter.

"Sometimes when people get nervous they start to say things that they don't really mean, but one thing I know is that I have a sturdy chin, I can pack a punch and I'm going to be victorious August 19. That is all."

EDDIE GOMEZ, Undefeated Rising Welterweight Star

"I'm excited about being on this undercard and about being on a card with Danny Jacobs, Marcus Browne, Claude Staten and a lot of New York fighters.

"August 19, whether it's by knockout, decision or whatever it is, I'm taking that victory.

"I know Chambers has two losses, and on August 19 he's going to have three."

STEVEN UPSHER CHAMBERS, Welterweight Contender

"I would like to thank Golden Boy Promotions and FOX Sports 1 for having me.

"I'm eager to get back in that ring. It's unfortunate that it has to be against Eddie Gomez because I would like to see him keep winning, but this time he has to go down.

"This is my big opportunity right here. I guarantee you're going to see a great show. Tune in August 19 and you'll see me get a great victory."

MARCUS BROWNE, 2012 U.S. Olympian & Rising Light Heavyweight Star

"I'm excited to be part of this card. I'm training hard. I know these guys are training hard because we don't want to look bad on TV.

"I'm going to make my momma proud.

"I know Danny Jacobs is going to do his part. I know Eddie Gomez is going to do his part. I know Claude Staten is going to do his part. I hope our opponents are ready because it's going to be a great show."

CLAUDE STATEN JR., Bantamweight Prospect

"I'm excited to be here and I'm excited to be sharing the stage with Danny Jacobs, Eddie Gomez, and Mr. Staten Island, Marcus Browne. I'm also excited to be up here with Bernard Hopkins because my professional debut was on his card on March 9.

"On August 19, I am going to get my second victory and keep working."
