Rising prospect Diego De La Hoya (12-0, 7 KO's) continued to impress Friday night as he defeated Jesus "Estrella" Ruiz (32-7-5, 21 KOs) by unanimous decision. Scores were 100-90, 100-90, 99-91. De La Hoya, the cousin of Hall of Fame fighter Oscar De La Hoya, showed his boxing skills to frustrate Ruiz over ten rounds. The featherweight fighter is in a weight class full of stars like Frampton, Rigondeaux, Santa Cruz, Mares, and more. In the next couple years De La Hoya will be moving his way to get into the ring with those type of names. For now, he's just tallying up the victories.
"Movement was a big part of our plan to out box him and so we conditioned so that I could move effectively throughout the fight. I felt comfortable and calm and in control throughout the whole fight and I thought I landed some good uppercuts and really hurt him. Those were some of my favorite punches to throw," said Diego De La Hoya following the fight.
