Julio Cesar Chavez: I am fighting Anthony Dirrell on Nov. 11

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., the same fighter who didn’t show up against Canelo Alvarez in May and lost a lopsided decision, is reportedly on the comeback trail.

Chavez (50-3-1, 32 KO’s) announced on Twitter that he will return against former WBC super middleweight world champion Anthony Dirrell on Nov. 11 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. According to the former world champion, the bout will be at the full division limit of 168 pounds.

After the embarrassing defeat to Canelo, Chavez said he drained himself to make the 164.5-pound catch-weight. Each fighter needed to be at or below the limit, or they would have faced a $1 million penalty. Chavez, who has notably had issues with making weight in the past, made the weight, but looked gaunt. It was his lowest weight since September 2012, when he lost his WBC middleweight world title to the now-retired Sergio Martinez.

Dirrell (30-1-1, 24 KO’s) was scheduled to face Callum Smith for the WBC title in September, but Smith chose to fight in the World Boxing Super Series, where he advanced to the next round with a unanimous decision victory over the previously undefeated Erik Skoglund. Then, Dirrell was slated to face David Benavidez, but withdrew due to injury.

Dirrell has won his last three fights since losing his WBC belt to current WBA light-heavyweight world champion Badou Jack by majority decision in April 2015.

It is going to be back a long road for Chavez, who undoubtedly has damaged his reputation.
