The gloves are coming off for Jahi Tucker and Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson after an intense social media back-and-forth that included conflicting stories of a sparring session gone wrong. Now, the Brooklyn-born Tucker and Baltimore’s Simpson are ready to settle their beef in the ring.
On Saturday, June 21, the two rising middleweights will clash in a highly anticipated 10-round special attraction at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The fight is set to be part of an action-packed event, which also features a headline bout with Garden State’s own Vito Mielnicki Jr. taking on Kamil Gardzielik, and a heavyweight co-feature between unbeaten Polish contenders Damian Knyba and Marcin Siwy.
The full card, including Tucker vs. Simpson, will be available for streaming live and exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S.
Tucker vs. Simpson: A War of Words and Punches
Tensions are high ahead of this bout. Tucker (14-1-1, 6 KOs) fired the first shot, denying Simpson’s claim that he dropped him during sparring.
“This man is telling everyone that he dropped me in sparring. That never happened,” Tucker said. “I beat him around the ring, and I’m going to do it again, for real this time, on June 21. Truck talked his way into this fight, and I’m going to beat him down for however long it lasts.”
Simpson (13-1, 4 KOs), who has dealt with personal challenges recently, is ready to silence the critics.
“I’m glad he finally took the fight,” Simpson said. “He spoke on me. I’ve been going through many things, but I’m focused now. A lot of fighters try to paint this tough narrative, but at the end of the day, we have to fight. This will be a great clash of styles, and I think we can steal the show.”
Tucker’s Resilience
Tucker, a former Top Rank prodigy, has been making waves since turning pro at just 17. After a challenging draw with Argentine Olympian Francisco Daniel Veron in December 2023, Tucker has bounced back strong with four straight victories, including a dominant win over veteran Quilisto Madera last November. Most recently, Tucker impressively dropped former British champion Troy Williamson twice, earning a unanimous decision in April.
“I’m on a mission to prove I’m ready for the big stage,” Tucker said. “Simpson’s just another obstacle, and I’m going to take care of business.”
Simpson’s Comeback
Simpson, a decorated amateur with a string of Youth National Championship titles and a Pan American Youth Championships silver medal, turned pro in 2018. After starting his career 13-0, Simpson’s momentum was halted by two tough losses, including a controversial split decision defeat to Raiko Santana in June 2023. However, Simpson rebounded in February with a first-round stoppage over Trevon Smith at Prudential Center.
“I’m not letting anything distract me anymore,” Simpson said. “I’ve got my eyes locked on June 21, and I’m coming to make a statement.”
