Boxing Takes Over Times Square: Garcia, Haney, Lopez Lead Historic ‘Fatal Fury’ Fight Night

For the first time ever, Times Square will host a live professional boxing event, and it’s set to make history. On Friday, May 2, The Ring Magazine presents “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves”, a groundbreaking five-fight card featuring Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and Teofimo Lopez, broadcast live on DAZN PPV at 5:30 p.m. ET.

This milestone event is a collaboration between SNK Corporation, Golden Boy Promotions' Oscar De La Hoya, and Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn. It's also the first U.S. event promoted by The Ring Magazine.

The Main Event Trio

Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) returns to the ring in a high-stakes welterweight clash against former world champion Rolly Romero (16-2, 13 KOs).

Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), the former undisputed lightweight champion, faces Jose Carlos Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) in a battle of elite super lightweights.

Reigning WBO Super Lightweight World Champion Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) defends his title against undefeated contender Arnold Barboza Jr. (32-0, 11 KOs), promising fireworks in a true clash of styles.

Rising Stars and Special Showdowns

The undercard features the professional debut of Japanese standout Reito Tsutsumi, who faces Levale Whittington (1-2-1, 1 KO) in a six-round featherweight bout.

Kicking off the night is the “Battle of the Badges,” a NYPD vs. FDNY showdown between Joel Allen and James Gennari—a classic New York rivalry played out in the ring.

Wednesday’s Final Faceoff

At the final press conference held at the Manhattan Center, the fighters didn’t hold back.

Ryan Garcia:

“I’m here to do my job, knock Rolly out, and ride off into the sunset… We’re not leaving it to the judges—Rolly is getting put to sleep.”

Rolly Romero:

“I’m gonna knock Ryan out and he can go have fun with Devin afterwards. I actually think Devin deserves the rematch with Ryan.”

Devin Haney:

“It doesn’t matter if you boo or cheer—on Friday I’m dusting Ramirez and going after Ryan.”

Jose Ramirez:

“New York feels like home. I became a world champion here. May 2 is my night. I will beat Haney.”

Teofimo Lopez:

“You’ll see a new version of me on Friday. A version no one’s seen before.”

Arnold Barboza Jr.:

“I’m here to ruin Teofimo’s plans—just like I did in Manchester.”

Reito Tsutsumi:

“I want to make a big impact and prove who I am.”

Levale Whittington:

“Y’all are overlooking me, but Friday night I’ll shock the world.”

Joel Allen (NYPD):

“This is a dream come true. I fight for the kids in my city and the badge I wear.”

James Gennari (FDNY):

“He hasn’t faced me yet. This is going to be a fun one.”

From the Promoters

Rick Reeno, COO of The Ring Magazine:

“There’s only one word for this: history. Garcia, Haney, and Lopez didn’t choose easy fights—they chose legacy.”

Oscar De La Hoya:

“I’ve seen a lot in boxing, but never a ring in the middle of Times Square. This is truly special.”

Eddie Hearn:

“This event is unlike anything we’ve done. Friday and Saturday together mark one of boxing’s most historic weekends.”

DAZN’s Knockout Weekend

This Friday’s Fatal Fury event is part of DAZN’s Knockout Weekend Bundle, culminating Saturday with Canelo Álvarez vs. William Scull live from Riyadh Season. The two-night package is available for $90 (pricing may vary).
