While rematches often disappoint, nothing of that kind is expected when Usyk and Dubois meet for the second time. The two men will be battling it out for the undisputed championship in a match scheduled for 19th of July at Wembley. One of those people who knows a thing or two about title fights and boxing in general is Lennox Lewis. As many people these days he gave his two cents on who will win this bout.
As a former champion himself Lewis is a man who could give us regular fans an insight into what would transpire at Wembley. Former undisputed world heavyweight champion Lewis believes that this time around it is going to be Daniel Dubois who will exit this bout undefeated. In Lennox's eyes, Dubois will be out to take revenge and motivated by that he will make Usyk crash as one of the protagonists at Aviatorgames.org when things aren't going well.
Interestingly enough, it was Lennox Lewis who was the last undisputed champion before Oleksandr Usyk took that glory for himself when he defeated Tyson Fury last May when the two met. Lewis believes that Dubois has enough firepower in his fists to add his name to that list too. Usyk achieved that honour vs. Fury, and Dubois will have an opportunity to do the same. To make this title fight happen, the Ukrainian had to part with his IGF belt to fight Fury, while in the meantime, Dubois became full IBF champion as he was the interim holder while Usyk fought Fury.
While Usyk has won their last bout, it was not a duel without controversies. The Ukrainian boxer won the duel in August of 2023 after nine rounds. Before he won, Dubois had put him to the ground in what was deemed as a low blow by referees. Dubois begs to disagree, as he believes that he should have been declared a winner after the knockout. Lewis who has witnessed that duel shares the opinion of his countrymen, and believes that he has what it takes to take the win home this time around.
During an interview with Queensberry Promotions, the 59-year old former heavyweight champion Lewis stated that he believes Dubois is more than ready for a rematch and revenge. For Lennox, the win needs to be a reward for all trials and tribulations Dubois has been through. Lewis also added that he sees Daniel as a king slayer who has the power, and as a fighter who has been to the highest of heights before.
For Lewis, what Dubois needs to have in mind is their last encounter where he knocked down Usyk, and that's what he needs to do again to win. Also, there's a bit of national pride in stake for Lewis. One of the reasons why he would love to see Dubois to win is because he would be another undisputed champion from Great Britain, and an opportunity to become one at home soil doesn't come too often.
Of course, Lewis remains cautious as he knows that defeating Usyk is not an easy task, but remains confident that Dubois is the man who can do it if anyone can. For Lewis, Dubois and Usyk are fighters of similar pedigree, champions, and have put in the work to get to where they are. Yet, he believes that this time around Dubois should be the one to have the edge.
Dubois have been on a hot run as of late, and his last major win came last September when he took out Anthony Joshua via knockout. Thanks to this win he managed to retain his IBF crown. At the same time, Usyk is also a decorated fighter who holds WBA, WBO, and WBC titles, all of them retained after he sent Fury home in December. According to his own words, he will only fight two more times in his career that has been more than illustrious so far. One of those two fights is the upcoming 19th of July bout vs. Dubois at Wembley, and for the last one we will have to wait a tad bit more, but we are sure it is going to be a blockbuster regardless of the result of this fight.
As far as this bout goes, regardless of what Lennox Lewis had to say, the bookies are still favouring Usyk and see him as the favourite to win this match as his odds are set at 3/10 (1.30), while a bet on Dubois pays with 10/3 (4.33). While Lennox and the home crowd will back Dubois and carry him through the match, it will take a true effort to take Usyk the Cat down. The best way to know who will win is to watch this epic bout at Wembley on July 19th.
