Highly touted teenage prospect “King” David Garcia will make his U.S. debut this Saturday, June 7, fighting under the banner of boxing legend Danny Garcia’s Swift Promotions. The 16-year-old will face Marcelino Rangel (1-1) in a four-round bantamweight bout at the Newtown Sports & Events Center in Newtown, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia.
“Being able to make my U.S. debut with Swift Promotions has always been a dream of mine,” said Garcia (3-0, 2 KOs). “It means that on June 7, a star will be born. That day will be legendary.”
A Young Career Already Making Waves
Garcia turned professional in 2024 at just 15 years old, following an outstanding amateur career that included over 80 fights and four national titles — U.S. Championships, National Junior Olympics, National Silver Gloves, and Western Elite Qualifier.
Now 16, Garcia campaigns at 115 pounds and has quickly gained recognition for his poise, power, and maturity in the ring. According to Garcia, the early leap into the pro ranks was part of the plan all along.
“We’ve known since I was about 13 that we were going to turn pro early,” said Garcia, who is trained by his father, David Sr. “I feel like LeBron James, straight out of high school to the NBA. That’s the kind of impact we wanted to make — turning pro at 15 and signing with Swift Promotions.”
A Legacy Connection with Danny Garcia
Garcia’s connection to the Garcia boxing legacy runs deep. He first met Danny Garcia at age six, and his father was inspired by Danny’s own father-son relationship with Angel Garcia.
“I always told myself I’d be in Danny’s shoes one day,” said Garcia. “We talked about him signing me even when I was a kid. Now that it’s happened, it’s a full-circle moment. With Danny guiding my career, we have the cheat code. He’s been through every situation I’ll face.”
Training with the Best
Garcia will soon join Puerto Rican contender Edgar Berlanga in training camp following his U.S. debut, continuing a relationship that started during Garcia’s younger years.
“Edgar’s in a great place right now with his mentality and work ethic. Being around that energy is going to help me grow. This will be my first time training alongside him as a fellow pro, and I’m ready to soak it all in.”
Garcia is also mentored by respected figures like Mickey Bey, further solidifying his support system as he begins his climb through the ranks.
A Star on the Rise
Though born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Garcia considers Philadelphia a “second home” due to the years spent around Danny Garcia and his training camps. He’s eager to make a lasting impression in front of Philly fight fans.
“I’m so ready to put on a show for the Philly fans. It’s always felt like home to me, so it’s fitting that my U.S. debut happens here. I want to show why I turned pro so young and prove I belong at the elite level.”
Chasing History
Despite his youth, Garcia has set his sights high. His ultimate goal? To become the youngest world champion in boxing history.
“The goal is to stay busy, keep winning, and make a real run. I want to be an inspiration to kids who are dreaming just like I was. I’ve got big fights ahead, but right now, it’s all about making a statement on June 7.”
With talent, charisma, and elite backing, “King” David Garcia steps into the spotlight this weekend — not just to win, but to announce himself as the future of boxing.
