David “Dynamite” Stevens (15-2, 10 KOs) earned a well-deserved 10-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Russian Olympian Petr “The Surgeon” Khamukov (13-1, 6 KOs) in the main event of LA Friday Night Fights 2, held at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California, and broadcast live on DAZN.
Presented by Paco Presents, Golden Boy Promotions, and Robert Garcia’s House of Champions, the main event showcased a clash of styles that tested both fighters' patience and adaptability. After a slow start, action picked up in round three with Khamukov landing sharp combinations and momentarily stunning Stevens with a left. But Stevens bounced back, upping his volume in round four and landing the cleaner, more eye-catching shots as the rounds wore on.
Though Khamukov remained aggressive, often jumping in with quick flurries, Stevens’ precision and power impressed the judges, who all scored the bout 97-93 in his favor.
“I know I made some mistakes and got a little tired, but overall, I feel good,” said Stevens post-fight. “The fight is won in the gym, and even without Ronnie Shields here, my assistant coach Travia Pierce and I stayed focused on the game plan.”
Leonardo Ruiz Dominates Jarrod Tennant in Comeback Win
Super welterweight Leonardo “Leo” Ruiz (16-1, 8 KOs) bounced back from his first professional loss in emphatic fashion, earning a near-shutout unanimous decision over Jarrod Tennant (9-5, 4 KOs).
Back in the ring after a tough knockout loss last December, Ruiz looked sharp and composed. He controlled the early rounds with patience, then turned up the pressure in the second half of the fight, battering Tennant around the ring. While Tennant never appeared seriously hurt, he was completely outgunned.
Scorecards read 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73.
“It felt great to come back and get the win,” said Ruiz. “I hit my groove in there. Not sure how one judge gave him a round, but I’m always my harshest critic.”
Juan Sanchez Destroys Yeis Solano in Three Rounds
Super lightweight prospect Juan “El Negro” Sanchez (9-0, 8 KOs) put on a dominant display against veteran Yeis “El Tigre” Solano (15-6, 10 KOs), scoring four knockdowns en route to a third-round KO.
Sanchez dropped Solano with a looping right hand in round one and followed up with a mix of body shots and clean power punches in the next two rounds. A final barrage in the third prompted the referee to wave it off at 2:50.
Sanchez suffered a minor cut from an accidental clash of heads but celebrated a statement win.
“I just followed the game plan from camp,” Sanchez said. “I’ve been saying I’m 9-0 with 8 knockouts by mistake for weeks. I guess I spoke it into existence.”
Dorian Mendez Wins All-Out War Against Leonardo Rubalcava
In one of the night’s most thrilling bouts, undefeated Dorian Mendez (6-0, 2 KOs) edged Leonardo Rubalcava (9-1-1, 3 KOs) in a six-round firefight where neither man stopped swinging.
Fighting in close quarters for nearly the entire bout, both boxers had big moments. Mendez appeared to stun Rubalcava in round four, but Rubalcava’s body shots and pressure kept things close.
The judges were split: 59-55 Mendez, 59-55 Rubalcava, and a deciding 59-55 for Mendez to remain unbeaten.
Alexis Alvarado Drops and Outworks Silva Gonzalez
Super bantamweight Alexis Alvarado (8-1, 5 KOs) earned a dominant unanimous decision win over the rugged Jose Silva Gonzalez (5-1-1, 4 KOs). Alvarado outworked Gonzalez in the early rounds and scored a knockdown with a booming right hand late in round three.
Gonzalez showed incredible toughness to survive, but Alvarado stayed in control, winning with scores of 40-35, 40-35, and 39-36.
Emiliano Alvarado Outpoints Mejia in Tough Battle
In a four-round showdown between 18-year-old super bantamweights, Emiliano Alvarado (8-0, 5 KOs) stayed unbeaten with a close but clear unanimous decision over Alejandro Mejia (2-2).
Alvarado dominated the first two rounds, but Mejia came storming back in the third. A questionable point deduction for a low blow in the final seconds of round four hampered Mejia’s chances. Judges scored it 39-36 (twice) and 38-37 for Alvarado.
Daniel Cruz Stays Perfect with Unanimous Decision Over Rohila
Opening the televised card, Daniel Cruz (10-0, 3 KOs) kept his unbeaten record intact with a solid six-round victory over India’s Sachin Rohila (8-4, 2 KOs). In a high-volume affair, Cruz’s work rate proved decisive.
The judges scored it 60-54, 59-55, 59-55 in favor of Cruz.
