Final Press Conference: Jake Paul, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and Undercard Stars Face Off Ahead of June 28 Showdown on DAZN

ANAHEIM, CA – The final press conference took place today at Honda Center in Anaheim ahead of this Saturday’s blockbuster showdown between Jake “El Gallo de Dorado” Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) and former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs). The Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) event, co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, will stream live on DAZN Pay-Per-View this Saturday, June 28.

Presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy and sponsored by Event Ticket Center and Fansly, the event also features an action-packed undercard with world champions, undefeated contenders, and the return of a combat sports legend. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.

Broadcast journalist Todd Grisham hosted the final press event, which featured MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian and Golden Boy Chairman Oscar De La Hoya joining fighters from the undercard, including Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, Yuniel Dorticós, Raul Curiel, Victor Rodriguez, Floyd Schofield, Tevin Farmer, Holly Holm, and Yolanda Vega.

JAKE PAUL QUOTES

On choosing Chavez Jr. as an opponent:

“He’s a great fighter. I like big names, legendary names, and he’s on my path to becoming a world champion. This is a tough test, but I’m here to challenge myself.”

On Chavez Jr.’s motivation:

“He’s coming in prepared. They say this is the hardest he’s ever trained, and he’s right to do so. I’m not a good boxer—I’m a great boxer.”

On other fights on the card:

“This is a stacked card. No one else is doing what MVP is doing. I grew up watching Holly Holm, and I admire Floyd Schofield’s talent. I even debuted on the same card as Tevin Farmer. This is going to be a special night.”

JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR. QUOTES

On Jake Paul’s ability:

“I don’t think he’s a good boxer. He tries hard, but trying isn’t enough. If he was good, then everyone on this stage would be legends.”

On Paul’s antics:

“No, he hasn’t gotten under my skin. That’s what I expected. It’s the only way he can get attention—because he hasn’t earned it in the ring.”

On his confidence going into Saturday:

“I’ve prepared to win. That’s why I’m confident—I know the work I’ve put in.”

JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ SR. QUOTE

On what his son needs to do:

“Jake Paul just fought Mike Tyson, and Tyson didn’t even throw a punch. This isn’t Tyson. Julio is going to throw real punches, and Jake is going to be running like a chicken without a head.”

GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ VS. YUNIEL DORTICÓS

Ramirez on the fight:

“I expect a war on Saturday. I know Dorticós will be ready, but I’ll show why I’m the unified champion.”

On Dorticós’ power:

“I’m prepared for Doctor K.O.”

Dorticós on his motivation:

“I’m not here to repeat myself. On Saturday, I’ll show that age means nothing. I’m 39, but I’m coming to win.”

On Ramirez’s status:

“He has to prove himself Saturday. We’re going to war.”

RAUL CURIEL VS. VICTOR RODRIGUEZ

Curiel on what fans can expect:

“My last fight was a fight of the year contender. This one will be no different. I’m coming to bring war.”

On Rodriguez’s threat:

“We’ll see if he can handle my power. I’ve had a great camp with Robert Garcia and I’m in the best shape of my life.”

Rodriguez on his opponent:

“I don’t know much about him, and I don’t care to. I’m focused on myself. I’ve done the work, and I represent a small country—but I’ll make it feel big on Saturday.”

On if he can stop Curiel:

“Yes. If I didn’t believe I could win, I wouldn’t be here.”

AVIOUS GRIFFIN VS. JULIAN RODRIGUEZ

Griffin on his nickname and journey:

“The underdog name comes from real life. I’m from Chattanooga, Tennessee. Most don’t make it out of my neighborhood. I’ve overcome more than boxing. I’ve beaten murder charges. A guy with gloves doesn’t scare me.”

On stopping Rodriguez:

“I’m here to do what I do. I’ve faced worse things in life than a fight.”

Julian Rodriguez on the fight:

“I’m bringing everything on Saturday. This is a level Griffin’s never seen. I know what I see, and I’m going to expose him.”

FLOYD SCHOFIELD VS. TEVIN FARMER

Schofield on getting the call:

“When we heard it was Tevin, I told my dad, ‘Take it.’ I haven’t fought since November, and I’m ready.”

On past issues with the Saudi Arabia fight:

“I won’t talk too much about that. What matters is I’m here now.”

On how he sees the fight going:

“He’s underestimating me. That’ll be his mistake. We’ll see Saturday.”

Farmer on Schofield’s ability:

“As a young fighter, he’s good. But stepping up to my level? I’m not impressed.”

On what he’ll bring Saturday:

“He’s never faced someone like me. I’m going to test his composure, his power, his brain. He’s not smarter than me, not stronger than me. He’s not William Zepeda.”

HOLLY HOLM VS. YOLANDA VEGA

Holm on returning to boxing:

“My heart brought me back. I’ve never fought in this weight class before, so this feels like unfinished business. I’m here to become a champion in a fourth division.”

On if she can still compete at a high level:

“I’m not who I was 10 years ago. I’m better. I’ve grown as a fighter and learned so much in the last decade.”

Vega on fighting a legend:

“It’s an honor to face Holly, but it’s time for a new generation. She needs to retire.”

On how she plans to win:

“The work has been done. On Saturday, I’ll show that Mexico has a new face in the sport.”
