Russell Jr., Picasso & Magsayo Lead Action-Packed PBC on Prime Video Undercard Ahead of Pacquiao vs. Barrios Supercard

Before legendary eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao takes center stage against WBC Welterweight World Champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios, a stacked tripleheader will heat up the arena during the PBC on Prime Video preliminary broadcast on Saturday, July 19, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Headlining the free streaming portion is the long-awaited return of former world champion Gary Russell Jr., who steps into the ring for the first time since 2022 to take on Mexico’s Hugo Castañeda in a 10-round lightweight bout. Russell, who ruled the featherweight division for nearly seven years, is moving up in weight as he eyes a second world title run under the watchful eye of his late father’s legacy.

“I’m ready to shake off the dust and do what I love,” said Russell. “Expect fireworks July 19.”

Castañeda, who holds a record of 15-2-1 (11 KOs) and recently scored a knockout over the previously unbeaten Felix Garcia, promises to bring pressure: “I know I’m facing a great fighter, but I have everything it takes to get the victory.”

Also featured is the fast-rising David “Rey” Picasso, an undefeated Mexican sensation ranked in the top five by The Ring at 122 pounds. Picasso (31-0-1, 17 KOs) will face Japan’s Kyonosuke Kameda (15-4-2, 9 KOs) in a super bantamweight 10-round clash. Picasso, who scored five wins in 2024—including over Damien Vazquez and Azat Hovhannisyan—aims to keep his title momentum building in hopes of a championship opportunity by year’s end.

“Facing Kameda will be a tremendous challenge,” Picasso said. “But I’m ready to move one step closer to a title shot.”

Kameda, cousin to Japan’s famed Kameda brothers, fights on U.S. soil for the first time and looks to bounce back from a loss to Luis Nery.

Opening the show is a battle between power and pride as former world featherweight champion Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo returns to the ring to face tough Mexican veteran Jorge Mata Cuellar in a 10-round super featherweight bout. Magsayo (27-2, 18 KOs) is riding a three-fight win streak since losing close decisions to Rey Vargas and Brandon Figueroa. Now competing at 130 pounds, he’s hungry to become a two-division world champion.

“It’s surreal to be training and fighting alongside Manny Pacquiao, my idol,” said Magsayo. “But I’m focused—I want that second world title.”

Cuellar (21-2-2, 13 KOs) is no stranger to going the distance and enters the ring on a five-fight winning streak. This will be his U.S. debut.

“This is going to be another great Mexico vs. Philippines war,” said Cuellar. “We’re ready to put on a show.”
