In a brutal 12-round showdown fueled by grit, pride, and relentless pressure, Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte (30-2-1, 23 KOs) narrowly defeated hometown favorite Kenneth “Bossman” Sims Jr. (22-3-1, 8 KOs) via majority decision in a WBA super lightweight title eliminator. Judges scored the bout 115-113, 116-112, and 114-114 in an all-action headliner broadcast live on DAZN and presented in association with Cancun Boxing.
The bout was contested at close quarters, with both fighters exchanging heavy shots in a grueling war of attrition. Duarte’s constant body work and pressure proved effective over the stretch, while Sims answered with sharp combinations and crowd-pleasing counters. The decision was met with a mix of cheers and debate from the Chicago crowd.
“I’m very happy. It was a war,” said Duarte. “He came in great shape and with a lot of experience. I feel I controlled most of the rounds. I learned a lot in this fight. If Sims wants a rematch, I’m open to doing it here again—but next time, I’ll come to knock him out.”
Sims disagreed with the outcome. “I thought I won. It was a tough, close fight, but I did enough,” he said. “Duarte brought the pressure like I expected, but I handled it. I want the rematch—ASAP.”
Prograis Outduels Diaz in Gritty Super Lightweight Co-Main Event
In the co-feature, former world champions Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (30-3, 24 KOs) and Joseph “JoJo” Diaz (34-7, 15 KOs) went to war in a fierce 10-round super lightweight battle. Despite suffering cuts from headbutts in rounds four and five, Diaz pressed forward and made it a dogfight.
Prograis, knocked off balance in round 4 (ruled a slip), adjusted with his jab and experience to take control in the later rounds. The judges returned scores of 98-92, 96-94, and 96-94, all in favor of Prograis.
“I needed this fight,” said Prograis. “JoJo is tough, a real veteran. We went 10 hard rounds, and that’s what I needed to sharpen myself. I want big money or another world title next.”
