Unbeaten featherweight contender Iman Lee (14-0, 8 KOs) is one step away from the biggest moment of his career. Tomorrow night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the 25-year-old from Yonkers, New York, will meet South Africa’s Bekizizwe “Dr. Sleep” Maitse (8-1, 3 KOs) in the third stage of the WBC Grand Prix, live worldwide on DAZN.
Lee, promoted by CES Boxing, has impressed throughout the tournament by showing adaptability against very different opponents. In the opening stage, he outboxed the speedy Juan Albornoz of Argentina to earn a majority decision. Stage two saw him switch gears to handle the relentless pressure of Mexico’s Hector Calderon, winning a clear six-round verdict.
Maitse, however, brings a new challenge. Calm under fire and technically sound, the South African has also earned his place in this stage by defeating two previously unbeaten foes — Colombia’s Rodolfo Puentes and Tanzania’s Juma Choki — both by unanimous decision.
The stakes are high: the winner advances to December’s Grand Prix final, with a major leap in world rankings on the line.
“I’ve been ready for every style this tournament has thrown at me,” Lee said after the weigh-in. “Maitse is talented, but I’m here to prove I’m the best in this field. Riyadh is going to see the best version of Iman Lee yet.”
