Justin Figueroa Looks to Shine in San Antonio Main Event Against Jarrod Tennant

Undefeated junior middleweight prospect Justin Figueroa (12-0, 10 KOs) returns to the ring this Saturday, August 23, headlining The San Antonio Summer Showdown at the Boeing Center at Tech Port. Promoted by Desi Martinez Promotions and Fighters First Management, the event will feature Figueroa in an eight-round clash with veteran Jarrod Tennant (9-5, 4 KOs) for the Junior NABF Super Welterweight Title.

The Atlantic City native is determined to give fans a memorable performance.

“San Antonio doesn’t want to see too much posing, they want a fight,” said Figueroa. “When it’s ‘Justin Time’, I flip the switch and do whatever it takes to get the job done. I’m going in there to entertain.”

This will be Figueroa’s second appearance in San Antonio. He previously earned a dominant unanimous decision over Christian Aguirre at the same venue in March 2024. He feels the city’s fight culture mirrors his hometown’s, making it an ideal stage.

“San Antonio is a fight town, just like A.C.,” said the 26-year-old. “Last year the fans embraced me, and I’m looking forward to giving them another strong performance.”

Figueroa faces a tricky challenge in Tennant, who has built a reputation for durability and defensive skill against tough competition. Known as “The Technician,” Tennant brings sharp jabs and counterpunching, forcing Figueroa to prepare for a chess match in the ring.

“I respect him,” said Figueroa. “He’s defensive, uses his jab well, and has never been stopped. But I have speed, power, angles, footwork—I’m a more complete fighter. My job is to make him fight.”

While Tennant has survived every opponent so far, Figueroa and his team believe they can be the first to finish him.

“My coaches think I can stop him early, maybe even in the first round,” said Figueroa. “I’m ready to go eight if I need to, but if he can’t keep up, I’ll get him out before four.”

Figueroa, trained by Johnny Gibbs with strength coach Darrian Hudgins, is targeting a strong finish to 2024. He hopes to return to Atlantic City in November before chasing bigger opportunities at 154 pounds.

“I’m patient and I believe in the process,” said Figueroa. “I know I’ll be ready when it’s time to face the elite.”

Winning the Junior NABF Title would not only give him his first career belt but also put him in line for a WBC world ranking.

“It’s been a while since someone from Atlantic City brought a belt home,” he said. “This is the start of something bigger. I’m growing into an unstoppable fighter, and soon I’ll be ready for the world stage.”
