Despite growing speculation that controversial personality Andrew Tate was set to get in the ring, recent reports have suggested that any projected fight is off the cards. The 38-year-old, who has a huge online following, had been linked with a fight on a Misfits Boxing card, but the broadcaster behind the fights has stated that no talks are in place for such an event.
Tate, who has found himself in a series of legal issues, most recently leading the criminal charges in Romania as well as being sued by four women in the UK, has a background in boxing and mixed martial arts, albeit that coming some years ago.
Boxing fans who want to back Tate in any such proposed fight, or indeed any opponent the American-born celebrity potentially faces, can do so with the aid of this amazing DraftKings promo code, which will make any payout even sweeter.
Tate is a four-time kickboxing champion and has been linked with moves to get back into the fight game, in any number of possible disciplines, but it appears that this particular road to any sort of comeback has hit a brick wall.
DAZN, the broadcaster that covers Misfits, has distanced itself from any move in this direction, but no doubt rumours will continue to surface. Back in 2024, before his arrest in Romania, Tate had been looking to secure a fight with another internet star, Jake Paul.
On that occasion, Tate stated about a potential megamoney clash with Paul.
"There was a time when he (Jake Paul) and I were talking about fighting,"
"I think if this arrest didn't happen, it probably would have come to flourish. We will see what happens in the future, we will see perhaps, it's possible, there's nothing no, there's nothing yes. We will see, I will skip this matrix attack and perhaps if he (Jake) needs to be taught a lesson, I will be the guy to teach him."
"Jake's an okay guy. He's putting boxing on the map, to be fair to him. To be fair to the guy, he can sell tickets. I mean, nobody, and this is with all due respect, should give a s*** about watching a 60-year-old fight a 27-year-old, but Jake can make them care. And, because he can make them care, he gets paid more than most boxers will ever make in their entire careers for one fight." Tate added, referring to the Jake Paul bout with Mike Tyson.
The honest truth is that the level of interest in a Tate boxing fight would be huge, astronomical even, but then the people behind the DAZN and Misfits boxing brands will have to make the assessment as to whether the likely blowback would be worth the exposure and money made is high enough to warrant greenlighting such a fight.
Tate is arguably one of the most hated people on the planet, and any bout that he takes part in would effectively be car crash TV; it would drive an audience to boxing, but would also cheapen the sport at the same time.
That’s a delicate balancing act they would have to consider, as would Dana White of the MMA, who has also been linked with moves to bring Tate in.
