Claressa Shields defeated Kaye Scott via a sixth-round TKO
Claressa Shields stopped Kaye Scott in the sixth round to win the WBC middleweight title Saturday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, in a bout scheduled for 12 rounds and televised by DAZN.
Shields, who had been campaigning at heavyweight, came down three weight classes for the fight and weighed 159.8 pounds. It was her first appearance at middleweight since 2023.
She controlled the fight from the opening bell, using her hand speed and jab and landing a clean left hook in the first round. In the second, a multi-punch combination produced visible swelling on the left side of Scott's face.
The finish came in the sixth. Shields landed a left hook that wobbled Scott and put her on the canvas. Scott rose before the referee completed the count, but Shields moved in immediately with a sustained flurry and Scott's corner threw in the towel at 1:38 of the round.
Shields' record, including this result, stands at 19-0-0 with four knockouts. Scott's is 5-2-1 with no knockouts.
In the chief supporting bout, Bernice Ferreira was awarded a win over Caroline Veyre by disqualification in the eighth round of a scheduled 12-round contest for the WBC super featherweight title. No reason for the disqualification was recorded.
Veyre entered the fight with a record of 11-1-0 and no knockouts. Ferreira's record going in was 10-0-0 with four knockouts.
