Floyd Schofield vs Lucas Bahdi Still In Negotiations
Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi have been given additional time to reach an agreement for their vacant WBA lightweight world championship fight.
The WBA announced that the purse bid, originally scheduled for August 11, has been postponed after both camps requested additional time to negotiate a deal. The negotiation period has now been extended through August 18.
The development is an encouraging sign that Schofield and Bahdi could come to terms without the fight heading to a purse bid.
Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) is currently the WBA’s No. 1-ranked lightweight contender, while Bahdi (20-0, 15 KOs) sits at No. 2. The two undefeated fighters were ordered to meet for the vacant WBA lightweight championship following Gervonta Davis’ move to champion-in-recess status.
Schofield has quickly emerged as one of the most promising young fighters in the lightweight division. The 23-year-old is coming off an impressive first-round stoppage of former world champion Tevin Farmer.
Bahdi, meanwhile, has built an undefeated record of his own and gained significant attention following his highlight-reel knockout of Ashton Sylve in 2024.
The WBA initially ordered a purse bid after the two sides failed to reach an agreement during the original negotiation period. That purse bid required a minimum offer of $150,000, with the winning bid to be divided evenly between Schofield and Bahdi.
For now, the purse bid is on hold as both sides attempt to finalize the fight at the negotiating table.
With a vacant world championship on the line and two undefeated fighters looking for their first major world title, Schofield-Bahdi would add another intriguing matchup to a rapidly changing lightweight division.
