Golden Boy Signs Undefeated Mexican Light Heavyweight Prospect Yair “Manotas” Gallardo

Golden Boy Promotions has officially added one of Mexico’s top young talents to its roster, announcing the signing of undefeated light heavyweight prospect Yair “Manotas” Gallardo (9-0, 8 KOs) of Chihuahua. The 22-year-old will be co-promoted in partnership with Miguel Cotto Promotions.

“This is a dream come true,” said Gallardo. “Since I was a kid, I’ve imagined myself signed with a major boxing company. I’m grateful to Golden Boy and Miguel Cotto Promotions for believing in me. I won’t let this opportunity slip away.”

A decorated amateur with more than 100 bouts and accolades that include national titles, Silver Gloves honors, and a Pan-American Games silver medal, Gallardo turned pro in late 2022. He’s since built a reputation as a heavy-handed technician, stopping eight of his first nine opponents.

“Yair is another major investment in the future of the light heavyweight division,” said Golden Boy Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “He represents his Mexican heritage with pride and power. His nickname ‘Manotas’—meaning heavy hands—is well-earned. We believe fans will see the emergence of a future Mexican star when he steps into the ring on August 2.”

“Yair Gallardo is Mexico’s most promising prospect,” added Hector Soto, President of Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment. “I’ve followed him since he was 11 years old. His discipline, maturity, technique, and power are beyond his years. He has everything needed to become a global boxing star and the next face of Mexican boxing.”

Gallardo’s next fight is scheduled for Saturday, August 2, as part of a stacked card promoted by Golden Boy. His U.S. debut is expected to be a key moment in what many insiders believe could be a rapid rise to contention in the light heavyweight division.
