In a relentless display of pressure fighting and conditioning, Victor “Jalapeño” Hernandez (14-0, 12 KOs) stopped Jayvon “Jigsaw” Garnett (10-2, 5 KOs) in the tenth and final round to capture the NABA and Junior NABF Featherweight Championships on Saturday night at the Fairgrounds Arena. The fight headlined Christy Martin Promotions’ “Mayhem in Music City 2” and was streamed live on Millions.co.
From the opening bell, Hernandez applied nonstop pressure, hammering Garnett with punishing shots to the head and body. Garnett, though game, was gradually worn down by the high volume and intensity. In the final round, Referee Duane Edwards stepped in at 2:23 as Garnett, visibly exhausted, sank to the canvas.
“I trained just to be hot and spicy,” said Hernandez. “You know what happens when a jalapeño’s too hot? It burns. He didn’t know that.”
Hernandez issued an open call to promoters and fighters: “Anybody who wants to give me a shot, talk to Christy Martin or Lisa Holewyne. I want them all.”
