Serrano Wins, Han Upsets Holm

San Juan, Puerto Rico – January 3, 2026

Amanda Serrano returned to her beloved featherweight division and her homeland with a hard-fought but clear unanimous decision victory over late-replacement Reina Tellez on Saturday night, retaining her unified WBA and WBO titles in front of an electric crowd at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente. The DAZN-streamed card, promoted by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), marked a strong start to women’s boxing in 2026.

The 37-year-old Serrano (now 48-4-1, 31 KOs) bounced back from back-to-back losses to Katie Taylor, outworking the game but outmatched Tellez (13-1-1, 5 KOs) over 10 rounds (three-minute rounds, a nod to Serrano’s push for equality in the sport). Scores were 98-92, 97-93, and 97-93 in favor of the Puerto Rican star.

Tellez, a 22-year-old short-notice substitute who missed weight by 0.6 pounds (making her ineligible for the belts), showed heart and landed some sharp counters—enough to cause significant swelling under Serrano’s right eye. However, Serrano’s volume, pressure, and body work proved too much, as she walked down the challenger and piled on punishment in the later rounds. Serrano fell short of the stoppage she craved (aiming to tie or break the women’s KO record), but the win was never in doubt.

“It’s been two years since I fought at this weight, so the next fights are going to be much, much better,” Serrano said post-fight on DAZN. She praised Tellez’s toughness and vowed to stay at 126 pounds moving forward.

Ringside guest and MVP co-promoter Jake Paul cheered on his star signee throughout the night.

Co-Main Event Upset

In the co-feature, WBA lightweight champion Stephanie Han pulled off an upset with a technical decision victory over 44-year-old legend Holly Holm. The fight was stopped due to an accidental clash, but Han retained her belt on the cards.
