Oleksandr Usyk Vacates Titles Amid Final Fight

In a surprising yet characteristically graceful announcement on Friday, June 26, 2026, undefeated heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk confirmed he is relinquishing his remaining world titles — the WBA, WBC, and IBF belts — to clear the path for the next generation while preparing for one last hurrah in the ring.

The Ukrainian legend, who has reigned as the undisputed heavyweight champion (at times holding all four major belts), posted a video message stating: “Today is a good day to announce that I want to give up all the titles that I now hold. To leave them free so that all the guys who are standing in line behind me can box for them.” He added, “I’m leaving the belts, but I’m not leaving the sport, because I still have my last dance… There’s more to come. Glory to God, Glory to Ukraine.”

A Historic Reign Comes to a Crossroads

Usyk (25-0, 16 KOs) achieved what few thought possible in the modern heavyweight era: unifying the division after moving up from cruiserweight, where he was also undisputed. His landmark victories include back-to-back wins over Anthony Joshua and a pair of decisions against Tyson Fury, cementing his status as one of the pound-for-pound greats and a master technician in a division long dominated by size and power.

This is not the first time Usyk has vacated a belt. He previously relinquished the WBO title in late 2025, leading to Fabio Wardley’s elevation. The latest move fully opens the heavyweight picture, with contenders like Wardley, Daniel Dubois (who holds the WBO), Anthony Joshua, and others poised to fight for the vacant crowns.
