Apparently, twitter is becoming the modern day norm to announce fights. Moments ago, WBC light middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0, 30 KO's) took to twitter stating that his May 4th bout would be against WBA light middleweight champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout (26-0, 14 KO's).
For weeks the speculation has been that Canelo would fight Trout on May 4th, but no official statement had been made for that to be true up until now. Fans appeared to be excited to see this fight, and believe that Trout is going to give Canelo a great fight. Trout earned his shot at Canelo by handily upsetting the favored Miguel Cotto in December for the WBA light middleweight title.
Many believe that a Canelo win, and a Mayweather win over his unannounced opponent for May 4th, will lead to a clash between Canelo and Mayweather on September 14th. While that remains to be seen, Canelo is going to have his hands full on May 4th against a tough southpaw in Trout.
