Many questions began to loom about a possible fight between Bernard Hopkins and Andre Ward after Hopkins easily beat Cloud last Saturday night. Hopkins said that Ward is a friend, and that no amount of money would make him step into the ring with him. That may actually be a good thing for Andre Ward. Hopkins has a record for beating young prospects, young champions, and pretty much ruining careers. A Ward-Hopkins fight probably isn't the best thing for Andre Ward. However, there is an issue. Since Ward has wiped out the super middleweight division, and beaten the top guy at light heavyweight Chad Dawson, there isn't really anyone left for him to fight. For Hopkins, he runs into the same issue. The only person left would for Hopkins would be Nathan Cleverly. The fight has shown interest already and Hopkins said that he's willing to go to the UK for the bout.
For Ward, he could fight guys like Jean Pascal, Tavoris Cloud, or Lucian Bute, but recent losses by these fighters have made the public lose interest. Then there is the dream of fans that Sergio Martinez moves up to 168 to fight Ward, or that they meet at 164, but that right now isn't a realistic thought. Whatever the future does hold for these two the one thing that can be certain is that it won't be a match against each other.
