On Friday, December 6, at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, promoters Andrew Wasilewski and Piotr Werner of Ulrich Knockout Promotions, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing and Dominic Pesoli of 8 Count Promotions will once again bring world-class professional boxing back to the Windy City with their latest blockbuster event, this one entitled "World Championship Boxing: Wlodarczyk vs. Fragomeni 3".
In the night's 12-round main event, WBC Cruiserweight Champion Krzysztof "Diablo" Wlodarczyk (48-2-1, 34 KOs) of Warsaw, Poland, will attempt to make the sixth defense of his title and complete an epic trilogy of fights with Milan, Italy's former WBC Cruiserweight Champion Giacobbe "Gabibbo" Fragomeni (31-3-2, 12 KOs).
Tickets for "World Championship Boxing: Wlodarczyk vs. Fragomeni 3" are priced at VIP $201, VIP Ringside $151, Ringside $101, Box Mezzanine $76, Reserved Mezzanine $51, and General Admission $31 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster (Ticketmaster.com, 1-800-745-3000), the 8 Count Productions Offices: 312-226-5800 or the UIC Pavilion Box Office: 312-413-5740.
Current WBC (and former IBF) World Cruiserweight Champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk is a blood-and-guts warrior who can't seem to be in a bad fight. The 32-year-old was last seen coming off the canvas to stop then-undefeated 2008 Olympic Gold Medallist and highly touted challenger Rakhim Chakhkiev in a definite "Fight of the Year" candidate, in June in Moscow, Russia.
Wlodarczyk won his WBC Championship in Lodz, Poland in 2010 with a brutal TKO 8 over Fragomeni, after previously fighting to a draw with him in one of 2009's best fights in Rome, Italy. He previously won and lost the IBF World Championship in a pair of fights against Steve Cunningham.
Fragomeni is a hero to his Italian people and a powerful slugger with unbreakable will. In addition to his WBC title, which he won in 2008 with a technical decision over Rudolf Kraj, Fragomeni has also currently holds the WBC Silver Cruiserweight Title and has also won the WBC International, European Union, WBC International and IBF Mediterranean Championships.
Fragomeni won his WBC Silver title and the right to face Wlodarczyk for the third time with a victory over his formidable Italian countryman Silvio Branco last December in PalaGarda, Italy.
"I am excited to defend my title against a worthy challenger in front of so many Polish Americans in the great city of Chicago," said Krzysztof Wlodarczyk. "I will finish this series with Fragomeni with a huge victory for all the fans."
"It has been my unique privilege to help Dominic Pesoli reignite Chicago as a boxing hotbed and this fight will feature yet another great Polish fighter in a world championship bout," said Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing. "The atmosphere of the Midwest's top location for boxing and the thrills that every Krzysztof Wlodarczyk fight creates will make for another unforgettable night."
"My partners and I are very happy to finally bring Diablo Wlodarczyk to Chicago, a city that loves an all-action Polish fighter like him," said Dominic Pesoli of 8 Count Promotions. "This is going to be an unforgettable night for the fans and a chance to see world championship boxing at its highest level."
Several other exciting bouts will be announced shortly. On fight night, doors will open on the night of the event at 6:00 pm CT with the first bout scheduled for 7:00 pm. The UIC Pavilion is located at 525 S. Racine, at the corner of Harrison and Racine on the campus of the University of Illinois-Chicago.
