Marcos Maidana shocks Adrien Broner

The fight was eccentric, dramatic, shocking, and everything more than what anyone could have expected. Marcos Maidana stunned the boxing world Saturday night in San Antonio, TX as he defeated Adrien Broner by unanimous decision. As soon as the fight started Maidana landed a huge left hand that stunned Broner. In the second round, he dropped Broner with a hard right. It seemed that Broner's night would end early but he managed to survive. However, it was Maidana who continued to pressure and hurt Broner throughout the fight. Broner never seemed to get comfortable in the ring despite having a few shining moments. At times it seemed Maidana had gassed out but he continued to move forward and land stunning shots that hurt Broner. In the eight round, Broner found himself on the canvas again as Maidana continued to hurt him. The entire fight was a war despite Maidana winning a lopsided decision. Scores were 115-110, 116-109, and 117-109. 


The Co-Main Event featured rising star Keith Thurman (22-0, 20 KO's) who dominated a tough Jesus Soto-Karass (28-9-3, 18 KO's). Soto-Karass stunned Thurman with a right hand in the very first round however Thurman was able to come back and close out the round strong. After that, it was Thurman who continued to dominate the fight with hard combinations. Soto-Karass kept pressing the entertaining fight but the hard punches from Thurman kept landing on Soto-Karass. Thurman landed a huge right hand in the ninth round that rocked Soto-Karass, and three punches later, the fight was over. 


Undefeated rising Mexican sensation Leo Santa Cruz (26-0-1, 16 KO's) was able to defeat a tough Cesar Seda (25-2, 17 KO's) in another exciting fight. Santa Cruz won a hard fought unanimous decision. With back and forth action the entire fight, it was Santa Cruz who was able to win the rounds by landing the harder shots and throwing tons of punches. Scores were 116-111, 115-112, and 117-110 all in favor of Santa Cruz. 


Opening the card, Beibut Shumenov made quick work of Tomas Kovacs with a 3rd round KO. Shumenov improved to (14-1, 9 KO's) while Kovacs fell to (23-1, 14 KO's).
