Saul Alvarez vs Erislandy Lara set for July 12th PPV

The showdown between arguably the two best junior middleweights in the world is officially set as Saul Canelo Alvarez (43-1, 31 KO's) will take on Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO's) on July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Showtime PPV. Canelo announced the fight via his Twitter page earlier today. Lara was scheduled to face Ishe Smith on May 2nd however he is pulled out of that fight to prepare for the fight against Canelo. Both fighter's have beaten the same opponents, Austin Trout and Alfredo Angulo, in the last year and are looking to cement their name as the best junior middleweight in the world today.

Lara is considered by many as an undefeated fighter who is one of the most tactical fighter's in boxing. His one loss to Paul Williams was highly controversial, and a fight that many felt Lara had easily won. Canelo was given a few options by Golden Boy as to who he wanted his opponent to be on July 12th. Canelo said that he wanted to face Lara as his first option. Lara has been calling out Canelo ever since his victory over Austin Trout last year.
