Jennings defeats Perez by Split Decision

In a tactical battle of heavyweights Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KO’s) managed to keep his undefeated record in tact as he scored a hard fought split decision victory over Mike Perez (20-1-1, 12 KO’s) on HBO earlier tonight from Madison Square Garden. Scores were 113-114, 114-113, and 115-112 in favor of Jennings. The fight was a close hard fought tactical battle with limited action. It was a hard fight to watch mainly at the hands of Perez who's movement, holding, and pushing caused Jennings alot of problems. Jennings was able to get in close at times, landing the cleaner punches to the body and head. Perez lost a point in the final round when the referee went to break Jennings and Perez apart and Perez hit Jennings with a punch during the break. The point turned the fight from what would have been a draw to a loss for Perez. With the victory Jennings is the number one contender to face the winner of WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne and the undefeated Deontay Wilder who should square off in the ring later on this year.
