Sergio Thompson aims for title shot

Following his big win over Ricardo Alvarez on March 8, Mexican star Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson has the opportunity to put himself back in line for a world title shot on Saturday, August 2, when he faces the Philippines' Adones Aguelo in a WBC super featherweight title elimination bout to air live on Televisa and FOX Deportes from Estadio Nachan Kaan in Chetumal, Mexico.

The bout will be Thompson's first in his hometown since October of 2012.

In the co-main event, it's an all-Mexico slugfest when welterweights Silverio "Chamaco" Ortiz of Merida, Yucatan Mexico and Fernando Castaneda of Aguascalientes battle it out in a 10-round matchup.

One of Mexico's premier boxers, 30-year-old Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (29-3, 26 KOs) was on the fast track to a world title and on a 13-fight winning streak when he lost a 2013 Fight of the Year candidate to WBC 130-pound champion Takashi Miura in August of 2013. Unbeaten in two fights over Cesar Chavez and Ricardo Alvarez since then, Thompson has his sights set on a rematch with Miura, but he has to get past Aguelo this Saturday first.
