Former world champion Abner Mares is officially part of Team Haymon, according to his Twitter post. For months it’s been rumored that Mares was looking to sign with Al Haymon following his shocking 1st round KO loss to Johnny Gonzalez last year. Mares has been working on signing with Haymon for awhile now and it looks like he has finally signed a contract with the legendary manager.
“Happy and excited to announce that I'm officially part of Team Al Haymon.” Mares tweeted.
After the loss to Gonzalez, Mares made a switch in trainers sending him to Virgil Hill. He defeated Jonathon Oquendo on the Canelo-Lara undercard in his first fight under Hill, and first fight since taking the first loss of his career.
