Pacquiao Pegged as Early Betting Favorite Over Algieri

With their recent two-week tour promotional wrapped up, Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri have returned to the business of preparing for their November 22 fight at the Venetian Casino & Resorts’s Cotai Arena in Macau, China. Pacquiao’s WBO Welterweight title will be on the line in the fight.

Pacquiao, who is defending the title he regained earlier this year by unanimous decision over American Timothy Bradley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, is pegged as a heavy 1/12 favorite over Algieri in boxing online betting at Algieri, who owns a perfect 20-0 record in the ring, is also the current WBO Light Welterweight champ, but that belt will not be on the line in his fight with Pacquiao.

The recent tour made stops in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and China with the objective of raising interest in advance of the November pay-per-view TV event.

While Pacquiao is both the favorite and the star of the event, his recent fights have failed to produce the audiences that he once commanded. Pacquiao remains a dominant fighter, but has won by a knockout just once since 2009.

With a pair of losses in 2012, including a loss by split decision in his first fight with Bradley, concerns have been raised about the 36 year-old’s ability to draw large audiences outside his native Philippines the way he once did.

A former USKBA Kickboxing champion, Algieri exploded onto the international boxing stage earlier this year with a split decision win as an underdog over Ruslan Provodnikov to claim the WBO Light Heavyweight belt.

Despite the win, Algieri remained a relative unknown to many boxing fans; a promotional concern the recent tour was expected to address.
