Undefeated WBC super bantamweight champion (Leo Santa Cruz 30-0-1, 17 KO's) and fellow Mexican fighter Abner Mares (29-1-1, 15 KO's) have agreed to terms to square off against each other in the ring on August 29th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, according to multiple sources in the industry. Leo Santa Cruz told the La Times last that the site deal had been signed by both him and Mares. The PBC itself has yet to confirm.
The championship fight will feature to high profile Mexican fighters who can pack action each time they step into the ring. Dan Rafeal from ESPN stated weeks ago that the fight is expected to land on ESPN however NBC could be in play as well. With all the heat the PBC has been getting for mismatches this year, this is a fight that can take away from the negative feedback.
