Leo Santa Cruz vs Abner Mares Preview

Abner Mares (29-1-1, 15 KOs) and Leo Santa Cruz (30-0-1, 17 KOs) will clash this Saturday, August 29th @ Staples Center, Los Angeles. The fight will be aired on ESPN starting @ 10pm ET as part of the Premier Boxing Champions. They will fight for the vacant WBC Diamond featherweight title scheduled for twelve rounds.

Mares (29-1-1, 15 KOs), 29, has faced criticism about the caliber of his recent opponents. Some calling the three fighters he last fought since losing to Jhonny Gonzalez in a major upset in August 2013, nothing but walkovers. Santa Cruz faced similar criticism by not facing Guillermo Rigondeaux or titleholders Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg in unification matches.
