Roman Martinez vs Orlando Salido
In a rematch, WBO junior lightweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-2-3, 17 KOs) retained his title with a controversial twelve round draw against four-time world champion Orlando “Siri” Salido (42-13-3, 29 KOs), Scores were 115-113 Martinez, 115-113 Salido, 114-114. Salido. They threw over 1700 punches in their bout. The fight was an all out war with both fighters never stepping back. Both fighters were once during the bout. Many thought that Salido won the bout including myself.
Badou Jack vs George Groves
In an action packed fight WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) retained his title with a twelve round split decision over George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs)Scores: 114/113 Groves / 115/112 Jack / 116/11 Jack.
Badou Jack dropped Groves in round one, Groves got up to survive the knockdown. The beginning rounds were as even as rounds could be scored.
Jack established the jab with a one / two combination and landing to the body. Groves right hand found its target landing hard. Groves really picked things up by the eight but Jack was to strong taking the rounds. Groves started to take a lot of body shots in the ninth round as Jack was finding the target. Groves had a very good 10th round at one point buckling Jack with a sharp jab. As the fight closed Jake pulled away with the rounds but Groves fought his heart out.
Oquendo-Gonzalez started out at what looked like could be fight of the year. Both fighters scoring a knockdown in round one and two. Gonzalez dropped Oquendo in round one. Oquendo came back strong scoring a knockdown in round two. The fight continued with toe-to-toe action. Gonzalez was cut over both eyes. Oquendo was cut over the left eye. In the end Oquendo scored a ten round majority decision with scores: 94/94 95/93 98/90.
