Undefeated Cuban Heavyweight Luis Ortiz (22-0, 19 KOs) will be fighting Matias Ariel "El Matador" Vidondo (20-1-1, 18 KOs) on the Golovkin-Lemieux undercard October 18th on Madison Square Garden. They fight will be televised on PPV as part of a four fight card. Ortiz was originally supposed to face former heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne on the card however there was an issue with Stiverne's promoter, Don King, that prevented the fight from happening.
Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya is excited to see Ortiz take the stage on television.
"Luis Ortiz is the real deal - not only does he have tremendous power, but he moves extremely well for a man of his size," said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "If he gets past Vidondo, and captures his first heavyweight title, fights against anyone in the division - including Wladimir Klitschko - will be on the table."
After the biggest win of his career last year Ortiz failed a drug test as he tested positive for a banned substance Nandrolone. Ortiz will be looking to put that in the past and get back on track in the heavyweight division.
