Broner vs Allakhverdiev preview & TV info

This Saturday night on Showtime boxing #2 WBA Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) will be fighting #5 WBA Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9 KOs). Broner will be fighting in his home town @ U.S. Bank Arena, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The bout will be for the vacant WBA World super lightweight title scheduled for 12 rounds.

Broner, is also coming off of a defeat to former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter last June. Porter was down in the 12th round when Broner caught him with a straight right. Broner’s only other lost is to Marcos Rene Maidana in 2013 where Broner was down in rounds 2 and 8.At one point many had labeled him as the future of boxing. His flashy, outspoken personality is polarizing. However in his recent fights he has not impressed. There is also his questionable dedication outside the ring.

Khabib Allakhverdiev is coming off an 18 month layoff & his only lost on his record to Jessie Vargas in April of 2014. He has a few names on his resume like Souleymane M'baye, Joan Guzman & Nate Campbell.

The ideal fight for Broner and the vacant WBA World super lightweight title would have been #3 WBA Amir Imam. However this is a VERY dangerous fight for Broner. Amir Imam sports an 83% knockout ratio and stands at 5/10”. It also seems strange that the WBA is allowing Allakhverdiev to fight for a vacant title. Its almost like they know Allakhverdiev has no chance of winning this bout.

The fight will be aired live on Showtime boxing starting @ 10pm ET with Jose Pedraza vs Edner Cherry as the co-feature.
