Result: Peterson gets the nod over Diaz

Lamont Peterson (34-3-1, 17 KOs) won a 12RD MD over unbeaten Felix Diaz Jr. (17-1, 8 KOs) with scores 114-114 and 117-111, 116-112 @ a catchweight of 143 pounds. The fight took place Saturday night in the EagleBank Arena at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. However most thought Diaz won the fight including the staff here at fightnights.com.

Peterson started strong being the aggressor and scoring the early rounds. Peterson who is a boxer puncher changed his game up and stood toe to toe with Diaz in the pocket. Both fighters exchanged big punches. Peterson was effective with his body punching in rounds 2, 6 and 8. However Peterson started to give away a lot of round by not punching back especially in the late rounds. Diaz who is the shorter fighter by 4" used his footwork and inside attack to score big when the fight was close range. Peterson should have used his height and range to fight outside and land the jab with combinations.

Most saw the fight a draw at the end of the 10th round and seeing the last two rounds as winner takes the fight. Diaz in our opinion won the last tow rounds as Paterson just leaned on the ropes not really doing anything for using his high guard. S uprising some of the judges saw things different.
