Lomachenko eyes Salido rematch

WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (4-1, 2 KO's) will take on Romulo Koasicha (24-4, 14 KO's) this Saturday night on HBO as the co-feature to the Timothy Bradley vs Brandon Rios fight. Lomachenko is considered one of, if not the, best featherweight in the world today. Despite having only 5 fights and one of them being a loss at the hands of Orlando Salido, his outstanding amateur record and boxing skills are remarkable. Many think he can be a future star in the sport.

"I want to bring something new to boxing." Lomachenko stated. " I want to be known to fans and appreciated as a 'boxer-painter' in regards to speed, footwork, punching power -- an art form inside the ring. I have looked at videos of many great champions like Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson and Joe Frazier who each had special qualities. I never say one particular fighter is the best ever because each has a special unique style of fighting.

"Every fight has challenges. I looked at some video of my opponent who fought Lee Selby. In the middle of that fight my opponent did a transition and fought with a different type of style against Selby. These are the situations you must deal with on the night of a fight.

"Who would I like to fight some day? Getting Salido back into the ring would be something I would like to see."

There is no lack of talent in Lomachenko's division. Nicholas Walters, Leo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares, Lee Selby, and more lie there. If that isn't enough, the weight division below him features Carl Frampton, Scott Quigg, Nonito Donaire, and Guillermo Rigondeaux. A fight with Rigondeaux has been discussed and should Lomachenko win this weekend that could be next if there is no rematch available with Salido.
