Many expected former world champion Lucian Bute (32-2, 25 KO's) to be a walkover for new champion James DeGale (22-0, 14 KO's). It was a fight that was supposed to showcase DeGale and in a way it did. Saturday night in Quebec James DeGale defeated Lucian Bute by unanimous decision. Even though the scorecards read 117-111 twice and 116-112 once the fight was much closer than that.
Lucian Bute, a fighter that many thought was washed up and finished, showed that he is a live dog in the super middleweight division as him and DeGale battled in a 12 round thriller. Though DeGale got the better of Bute in alot of the rounds, both guys stood in the pocket toe to tow firing off devastating combinations to the body and head. At times in the last couple rounds it appeared as though DeGale was hurt making the people think Bute could land a comeback TKO victory but DeGale's toughness not only allowed him to survive but to keep throwing combinations. In the last round the crowd couldn't stay in their seat as DeGale and Bute battled to the final bell.
