Danny Garcia: I'm looking to fight anyone at 147

Undefeated former junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KO's) will take on former world champion Robert Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KO's) for the debut of PBC on Fox January 23rd at the Staples Center in L.A. Yesterday both fighters were present at the press conference formally announcing the fight. Here is what Garcia had to say:

"I want to thank California for accepting me and giving me the chance to showcase my skills at STAPLES Center.Training camp has been going well. We already started sparring. I feel a lot stronger at 147-pounds. The world hasn't seen the best of Danny Garcia yet, but they'll see a fresher, faster, stronger and smarter fighter on January 23. I'm from Philadelphia, but I feel like California is my home because they say this is where the stars come. And I'm a star. I'm going to go out there and set the tempo. I'm going to back him up. If I have to move around and use angles I will. I'm going to stick to the game plan. I'm looking to fight anybody at 147. I believe I will be a champion in this new weight class. This is another step for me towards taking over the welterweight division."

Garcia has taken alot of slack from the fans since his upset victory over Lucas Matthysse over 2 years ago. He's had two very questionable wins over Mauricio Herrera and Lamont Peterson and victories over the unknown Rod Salka and the very past prime Paulie Malignaggi have only hurt his reputation more. Garcia's recent move to 147 has put him in a weight division with some very good fighters but he'll need to step up the competition in order to earn the respect of the fans. It's doubtful it'll start with Guerrero but should he win then maybe a fight with Shawn Porter or Keith Thurman could earn Garcia the respect he once had.
