Jermain Taylor’s run-ins with the law continued Tuesday after he was arrested for allegedly biting and threatening a woman.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Lily drive in Maumelle, Arkansas around 2:41 a.m. regarding reports of a domestic disturbance at a residence. Police say Taylor attacked the woman and attempted to break her cell phone to prevent her from calling 911, and proceeded to bite her several times.
The victim stated that she was able to get away from Taylor, 38, for a short period. However, when the ex-middleweight champion tried to prevent her from leaving, she pepper sprayed him in the face and sprinted down the street as Taylor threatened to kill her per KATV.
Authorities say bite marks were visible on the woman. Taylor was transported to the Maumelle Police headquarters and charged with third-degree battery, first-degree terroristic threatening, and first-degree interference with emergency communication, and later released.
Taylor’s life has been in disarray since his time as a prizefighter. He received a six-year suspended sentence on three felony charges last May. Additionally, Circuit Judge Leon Johnson gave him a suspended 19-year sentence on the condition he stayed out of trouble.
His attorneys said that Taylor had recently completed rehabilitation and was ready to fight again.
The last place Taylor needs to be is inside the ring.
