One of Floyd Mayweather Jr's bodyguards was shot in the leg outside an Atlanta hotel early Monday, police said.
The Atlanta Police Department said in a statement that the bodyguard was in a convoy of three cars traveling to the InterContinental Buckhead hotel. Authorities believe Mayweather was with the vehicles, but was not in the car that was shot at.
The former five-division world champion was uninjured.
"At this time, it appears that this was not a random shooting and the shooter was targeting the victim's vehicle," Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah said.
The bodyguard, Gregory La Rosa, was treated at Grady Hospital, and discharged around 5:30 a.m.
APD spokeswoman Lisa Bender told media outlets that the cars were traveling to the hotel when another vehicle pulled alongside at an intersection and opened fire.
The drivers of the three vehicles fled the scene, and after losing the shooter's car, the driver carrying De La Rosa drove directly to Grady.
Mayweather was in Atlanta Sunday after promoting his Showtime-televised tripleheader Saturday at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
