Maurice Hooker arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, causing accident that injured multiple police officers

Newly crowned WBO 140-pound champion Maurice Hooker was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly driving while intoxicated in Dallas.

Hooker was booked by the Dallas Police at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday. A bond of $1,500 was set.

Authorities say Hooker (24-0-3, 16 KO's), who beat Terry Flanagan in Manchester by split decision in June to capture his first world title, was charged for driving while intoxicated and unlawful carry of a handgun by a licensed holder.

Sources say two police officers were hurt in an accident that allegedly began with Hooker behind the wheel. At around 2 a.m., one officer was pulling over a speeding car near a construction zone on Stemmons Freeway, north of Downtown Dallas. Hooker hit another patrol car that was in place to monitor a construction zone, which caused a chain reaction pileup involving three police cars, and a construction truck.

Hooker is due to make a mandatory defense against Alex Saucedo in the fall, but that could be up in the air following his arrest.
