2016 Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceição improved to 9-0 with five knockouts with a dominant eight-round unanimous decision over Edgar Cantu on the undercard of the lightweight world title fight between champion Raymundo Beltran and former titlist Jose Pedraza at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Conceição, 29, a Brazil native, was in full control of the bout from the opening bell behind a stiff jab, right hands, hard uppercuts, and ring generalship.
Cantu, who is known as "The Beast," proved that he can take a punch, but did not do much more than that. The 25-year-old from Laredo, Texas, falls to 7-5-2 with one knockout.
This was Conceição's third bout of 2018. The super featherweight prospect was coming off a third-round stoppage of Gavino Guaman in June.
Conceição is expected to return in November.
