Crawford-Khan confirmed for Madison Square Garden on April 20

New York has its first big fight for 2019.

Two sources have informed FightNights.com that the Terence Crawford-Amir Khan welterweight title fight will take place at Madison Square Garden on an ESPN pay-per-view on April 20.

The other venue in consideration was the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, where Crawford (34-0, 25 KO's) had previously fought twice, including his ninth-round stoppage over former titlist Jeff Horn to win the WBO welterweight title in June 2018. The 31-year-old Crawford has also headlined a card at Madison Square Garden as well as The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Khan (33-4, 20 KO's), 32, of the United Kingdom, who is unbeaten at 147-pounds, will fight for the second time at Madison Square Garden. It will be Khan's first bout at the 'Garden' since May 2010 when he stopped Paulie Malignaggi in the 11th round in what was the third defense of his junior welterweight title.

Los Angeles Times Senior Writer Lance Pugmire was the first to report that Crawford-Khan was going to take place at Madison Square Garden.

Crawford was initially slated to face former titlist Luis Collazo in March, but the three-division world champion wanted a tougher challenge.

Khan, who captured silver at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens, is probably the fastest puncher in boxing, but has also been knocked out or stopped three times in his career. Khan has won two consecutive bouts since getting knocked out by Canelo Alvarez in an ill-advised fight in May 2016.
