Former junior middleweight world title challenger Vanes Martirosyan was arrested earlier this month after headbutting his wife in their Los Angeles home.
According to authorities, Martirosyan was arrested for felony domestic violence the morning after a verbal argument on Sept. 15 escalated to the point that the 33-year-oof grabbed his wife by the arm and head-butted her square in the face.
Martirosyan’s wife, according to police, were described as “a bruise on her arm and a messed-up nose.”
Martirosyan (36-4-1, 21 KO’s), an Armenia native based in Glendale, California, was arrested and subsequently released the same day after bond was set at $50,000.
Martirosyan challenged then-154-pound world titleholder Demetrius Andrade in 2013. Despite scoring a knockdown in the opening round, Martirosyan lost a split decision and his unbeaten record.
Since that defeat, he has gone 3-3 in his last six bouts, including two consecutive losses. Martirosyan was outpointed by Erislandy Lara in a junior middleweight world title fight in May 2016. Then, Martirosyan came in as a last-minute replacement following the cancellation of former unified middleweight champion’s Gennadiy Golovkin’s rematch with Canelo Alvarez.
In his first bout at 160-pounds, Martirosyan was brutally knocked out in the second round by Golovkin.
