The return of former middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, age 45, after a six-year hiatus! Thats right the Maravilla will return next month to face Jose Miguel Fandino in a middleweight bout. The fight will take place @ El Malecon, Torrelavega, Cantabria, Spain. The event will not be televised in the USA. The last time we saw Martinez, was in 2014 when he fought Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden, New York. Not much is known about Jose Miguel Fandino (15W 6L 0D 8KOs). He does not have a great record or resume. This is definitely a fight to see where the aging Maravilla stands as far as a comeback.
The man who unified the IBF & WBA titles after wins over Juan Carlos Payano, Emmanuel Rodriguez & Nonito Donaire is now looking for the WBO title. Also The Monster wants to move up in weight as he struggles to find opponents at super flyweight. Last time he fought was against Nonito Donaire in November of 2019. Inoue was schedule to make his Vegas primetime debut but that fight like so many others got canceled due to the coronavirus. Inoue (19-0, 16 KO), who signed with Top Rank is looking to fight John Riel Casimero (29-4, 20 KO) who holds the WBO bantamweight title. We will see if that fight takes place this year.
Ukraine’s Usyk (17-0, 13 KOs) and Dereck Chisora (32-9, 23 KOs) were all set to face each on May 23rd at O2 Arena in London. Their 12-round bout was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
