The unbeaten Cruiserweight defied the odds again as Oleksandr Usyk continued his amazing journey Saturday night when he defeated WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua by unanimous decision. From the opening bell Usyk put the pressure on Joshua, creating angles for most of the fight, and landing a lead left hand that Joshua was never able to find an answer for. Joshua spent most of the fight attempting to land on a shifty Usyk. Joshua began to get better in the middle rounds however, it was Usyk who was able to finish off with flurries of combinations. Joshua was stunned a few times in the fight but never went down.
Scores were 117-111, 116-112, 115-112, all in favor of Usyk. Anthony Joshua does have the option to execute the immediate rematch clause in the contract.
