Gervonta Davis-Rolando Romero rescheduled for June 4 on Showtime PPV

Rolando Romero will get his second chance at fighting Gervonta Davis.

FightNights.com has learned that a deal is in the works to reschedule their previously postponed 135-pound secondary title fight for June 4 to headline a Showtime Pay-Per-View event.

BoxingScene.com was first to report the revelation.

Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) and Romero (14-0, 12 KOs) were initially slated to meet December 5 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. However, Romero was removed from the card five weeks before they were supposed to meet after a woman accused him of sexual assault. Isaac Cruz stepped in as his replacement and despite putting up a valiant effort, was outpointed by Davis, who overcame a left-hand injury that did not require surgery to preserve his unbeaten record. The result, though, snapped a 16-bout knockout streak for the Baltimore southpaw.

Although Cruz (22-2-1, 15 KOs) suffered his first pro defeat, "Pitbull" is set to return to the ring sooner than Davis. The 23-year-old will face Cuban veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-4, 18 KOs) in a 12-rounder on the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard April 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Romero, who hails from North Las Vegas, has not fought since July 17, when he stopped Anthony Yigit in the seventh round of their scheduled 12-round bout at AT&T Center in San Antonio, where Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano fought to a highly-disputed draw in the main event.

Leading up to his first offer to fight Davis, Romero had notched eight knockouts in his last nine fights. The one fight that managed to make it the full distance was a 12-round unanimous decision win over previously unbeaten Jackson Marinez in August 2020.

Romero has yet to face a legitimate power threat. He can add a checkmark to his resume on June 4, but whether he is successful in that endeavor is another story, as Davis is one of the hardest punchers in boxing today.
