Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez is staying busy.
FightNights.com has learned the former super middleweight world champion-turned 175-pound contender will headline a DAZN-streamed affair against IBO champion Dominic Boesel from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
The winner of the slated 12-round fight will become the mandatory challenger for the WBA light heavyweight title currently held by unbeaten titlist Dmitry Bivol, who will defend his belt for the fourth time against Canelo Alvarez on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Boesel and Ramirez are the No. 1 and No. 2-ranked contenders within the WBA at 175-pounds.
Ramirez (43-0, 29 KOs) will enter the ring for the third time in 10 months since signing with Golden Boy Promotions last spring. The 30-year-old southpaw has won all four of his 175-pound contests by KO since moving up to the red-hot division in 2019, and his last two fights have taken place under the Golden Boy banner.
Ramirez is coming off a 10th-round TKO of former title challenger Yunieski Gonzalez last December 18 in San Antonio. The bout was his second of his 2021 campaign, which took place five months after he scored a fourth-round knockout of Sullivan Barrera last July 9 in Los Angeles.
The 32-year-old Boesel (32-2, 12 KOs) will fight outside his native Germany for just the seventh time in his career. The former interim titlist will also make his U.S. debut. In his most recent contest, he defeated Robin Krasniqi in a rematch last October 9 in Magdeburg. The controversial win came nearly a year to the date the Kosovo-born Krasniqi scored a third-round knockout of Boesel in their first fight.
